Many management tips focus on motivating a team. This advice assumes that the team members aren’t already motivated to perform their best.
Motivation can be a short-term useful tool. However, its effectiveness soon fades. Motivation is a fire that dies quickly if not fed. What can be used instead or in conjunction with motivation?
There are many long-term management techniques that you can use far more effectively than motivation. This article will cover ten of them:
1. Tension
What do people (or groups of people) share before they are motivated to change things? Give yourself a smile or a gold medal if you said “tension.”
Why tension? It is simple, but sometimes not obvious. There is no motivation to change if there is no tension. Tension is the catalyst, the first step in motivating yourself to change.
It is not enough to bring about change on its own, but tension is necessary. Change is rare without tension. Look for areas of tension to create change in your life.
2. Enjoy the Inspiration
Consider where the word “inspire” came from. The word “inspire” comes from the Greek and means literally to “breathe life into”. When have you felt like you’ve been given new life? You may feel a sense of new life when you are in the presence beauty, particularly that which is found in nature.
It is important to own the life that has been breathed into you, no matter where it comes from. You can motivate your team members in a much more sustainable way when you “breathe” life into them.
