What to Expect from a Feeding Tube Insertion Procedure

Tips For Caring For The Tube

When caring for a feeding tube, the best advice for patients is to thoroughly wash their hands first. The patient should wash their hands with soap, water and a minimum of 20 seconds. If this is not possible, the patient can use an alcohol based hand sanitizer. Both cases require that the hands are clean and dried before handling the tube. Preventing clogs is another important tip when caring for a tube. It is a very common problem that patients with feeding tubes face. It is fortunately manageable. Before and after using the feeding tube, patients should rinse it with water. They should flush their tube with water after taking medication, and at least one time on days when they don’t use it.
