Canned Soup
Most people think they are doing their bodies a favor when they eat canned soup. However, it contains more than just vegetables and hearty broth. Two ingredients in canned soups are harmful to the body. The first harmful ingredient is sodium. Average cans of soup contain a minimum amount of 1000 milligrams sodium. This is less than the 2,400 milligrams per day of sodium that are acceptable. Most doctors advise that sodium intake should be kept between five and six hundred milligrams per day. Too much sodium consumption can lead to hypertension, fluid accumulation, kidney disease and osteoporosis. It can also cause stomach cancer, asthma, and other health problems.
Monosodium glutamate is also a chemical preservative found in some brands of canned soup. This compound, while still considered safe by government regulations , adversely affects the central nerve system. Monosodium glutamate consumption can lead to symptoms like drowsiness and nausea. When stressed, people should consume homemade soups that do not contain these harmful substances. This may require more effort, but is well worth it.
