If possible, let the area treated air dry after a sitz-bath. Some people prefer to pat the treated area with a clean, dry towel. Drying the area using a thin towel might be more comfortable than using a thick one if there are open sores. It is not necessary to apply moisturizer after a sitz bath. Moisturizers should also not be used if there is an infection. Doctors recommend that medicated ointments be applied immediately after the bath in order to increase the absorption. You can apply medicated creams to hemorrhoids or rashes as well as anal fissures immediately after a sitz bath. After applying the ointment to the skin, it is important that patients wash their hands and change into clean clothing. The portable sitz-bath should be hand washed in hot soapy water if it has been used. A dishwasher should not have been used.
