Sore Throat
A sore throat is a common symptom of swollen nodes in the lymphatic system. This can be caused by a viral infection or bacteria. A sore throat can be a symptom for strep, sinus, or gum infections. It may also occur with tonsillitis, influenza, or sinus infections. A sore neck can cause pain when swallowing. Patients may also find it hard to eat and drink. A sore throat can cause a hoarse or strained voice, which makes it difficult to speak normally. Because a sore neck can be an indicator of an underlying condition, patients are advised to see a doctor even if this is the only symptom they experience. If the sore neck occurs with a cold lasting more than five consecutive days, a doctor’s appointment is necessary. Doctors may prescribe antibiotics or medications to help reduce the severity of a sore throat. As part of home treatment, patients may find it relaxing to gargle salt water and drink hot fluids.
