Eye Surgery
In some more severe cases, eye surgery may be the best treatment for bulging pupils. Patients may need chemotherapy or surgery if the bulging eye is due to a cancerous tumour. Surgery is not usually the first choice for bulging eyelids unless it is an urgent situation. If the symptoms persist or are severe, surgery may be necessary. Cosmetic surgery can be used to improve the appearance if the bulging is no longer a problem and has not worsened.
Medical treatment doesn’t always reverse protruding eyes. Some patients may opt for surgery if treatment improves the condition, but does not reduce the bulging. Surgery is also an option for those with thyroid disease who have bulging eyes that threaten to cause vision loss. Certain surgeries may be required to repair the blood vessel or tissues behind the eye if the bulging is caused by these issues.
