Tips For Fasting Safely

Stop Fasting if Feeling Sick

intermittent Fasting can cause short-term symptoms like lightheadedness, headaches and fatigue. Fasting can cause low blood pressure or abnormal heart rhythms. Patients should stop fasting immediately if they notice any of the above symptoms and consult their doctor. To avoid dizziness or lightheadedness, patients should be careful when getting up out of bed. It may be helpful for the patient to sit with their feet flat on the ground on their bed before slowly trying to stand.

Regularly monitoring blood pressure, pulse and other vital signs during a fast will help people understand the impact of their fasting regime on their hearts. These measurements can be taken at home using an automatic blood-pressure monitor. Patients who experience heart palpitations, or feel fluttering or twitching in their chest, should seek immediate medical attention. Patients with a history of abnormal heart rhythms or lower blood pressure should not fast.
