Stomach Pain
Most likely, stomach pain from metformin will occur in women who are over sixty years of age. Usually, it occurs within the first six month of taking metformin. with high blood pressure may be at a higher risk of experiencing this side effect. Acetylsalicylic and metformin can cause stomach pain. Bloating and indigestion may also be experienced by patients with stomach pain.
To reduce the likelihood of experiencing these symptoms, doctors recommend taking metformin along with meals. The doctor may prescribe an extended release version of metformin or adjust the dosage to reduce side effects. If stomach pain persists for more than a couple of days, patients should inform their doctor. If the stomach is tender or swollen, they should seek emergency medical attention. Emergency care is also required if stomach pain is accompanied by fever or bloody stools.
