Japanese inventions that changed the way we live and travel

7. Silent Karaoke

What is it: The funnel microphone allows you to sing without making any noise
Invented: 2019
Average price:$81*

The silent karaoke microphone is made by Prodiea and allows you to train for nights out while not disturbing your neighbors. Utaet Voice Training Silent Karaoke Micro is a funnel that you sing into. The mic is muted and reduces 70% of the noise so that you can belt your songs out.

You can listen to the music using headphones. Prodiea advertises that dancing while singing can help you lose weight (even though Japan has the lowest obesity rate among developed countries at 3.2%).

Karaoke can also be used to reduce symptoms of social anxiety and improve self-esteem. Some might argue that this device removes the social experience of embarrassing yourself in front friends and strangers, but it could be a great way to warm up before renting a karaoke room!
