How To Use A Neti Pot Correctly

When To Stop Using

Neti pots should not be used excessively, as this can have negative effects on health. Saline, which is used in the solution to clean the sinuses, can break down nasal mucus. Neti pots are beneficial for people who suffer from allergies or other conditions that cause excessive mucus. Neti pots should not be used when there is no excessive mucus production in the nasal cavity. In healthy nasal passages, mucus acts as a protective layer for the sensitive tissues that line the nasal passages.

Repeated use of the neti pot over a period longer than three weeks can cause the mucus to dry out in the nasal passages, making the person more susceptible to irritations and pathogenic colonies in these tissues. Before using a netipot, it is important to consult your doctor if you have lacrimal or sinus duct abnormalities.
