Guide to the Healthy Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide

Treat Swollen Gums

Swollen gums can occur in some cases. It can be caused by a number of factors, such as not brushing or flossing enough. There are several ways to treat swollen gingiva. You can use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide with water. Doctors and dentists recommend three percent hydrogen peroxide most of the time. Mix one part hydrogen peroxide and two parts water.

This solution should be swished in the mouth for about thirty seconds, just like commercial mouthwashes. Hydrogen peroxide should not be swallowed. Repeat this process twice daily. If the patient’s gums still hurt or are swollen after using this method, they should call their dentist or doctor.
