MSG and Sulfites
MSG and Sulfites are additives which are commonly responsible for allergies. MSG is a flavoring agent in foods. Some patients have reported headaches, dizziness and hives. Some studies indicate that MSG consumption could be a factor for obesity, diabetes, and inflammation. Food and drinks are treated with sulfites to reduce the likelihood of mold growth and extend their shelf life. One out of 100 people are susceptible to sulfite sensitivities, which can cause severe allergic reactions. This sensitivity can cause headaches, dizziness and nausea, as well as breathing problems. While on the Whole30 program individuals should read food labels carefully to avoid MSG or sulfites. On food labels, sulfites can be listed as sodium sulfite or sodium bisulfite.
