Skill 4 – Time Management and Organization
Adults with disabilities need to learn time management and organization. These skills help them take charge of their lives and build independence. They also create a feeling of accomplishment.
Time management and organizational skills can help people with disabilities to be free from the rigid expectations of society. They can manage their time efficiently without feeling frustrated or overwhelmed by using effective strategies to set positive goals and develop organizational skills. People with disabilities gain more autonomy by taking control of their daily tasks.
Aside from these benefits, accommodations or adaptations can also help people overcome challenges in managing their time or organizing activities. Examples include creating lists with step-by-step instructions, using audio recordings in place of written notes and calendars to remind you of upcoming tasks or appointments.
By understanding the importance of mastering the art of time management and organization, those living with a disability are better equipped to take on life’s daily challenges–increasing productivity and providing a greater sense of purpose along the way.
