According to the UNC Center for Functional GI & Motility disorders, 60 percent of those with irritable bowel also have fibromyalgia.

Both Fibromyalgia (pain symptoms) and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) share similar clinical characteristics. They are both more common among women, and they are often associated with stress. Both medical conditions are characterized by fatigue and disturbed sleep. The exact relationship between fibromyalgia, IBS and fatigue is still being investigated.
