Pain during urination
Fibromyalgia patients may experience a strong urge to urinate, as well as pain when urinating.
The cause of bladder or urinary issues in fibromyalgia is still being investigated. National Institutes of Health formed a multidisciplinary approach to the study of chronic pelvic pain in fibromyalgia patients.
Researchers have found that fibromyalgia patients are at an increased risk of pelvic pain and urinary tract issues. Three out of five women with the condition reported experiencing pain in their external female genitals when urinating. One study found that one out of five women with fibromyalgia had interstitial cystitis. It can cause discomfort when urinating. Fibromyalgia is more common in people with interstitial bladder pain or undiagnosed cystitis.
Visit your doctor as soon as possible if you experience pain when urinating. He can then perform a pelvic exam to rule out other causes of dysuria.
