Heat and Cold Intolerance
The cause of temperature intolerance can be caused by fibromyalgia, but is still being investigated.
Even at room temperature, fibromyalgia patients complain of extreme cold. It may be caused by an over-sensitization of the nervous system. Patients with fibromyalgia may also complain of feeling excessively hot compared to other people. Temperature sensitivity is usually found in the feet and hands. In one study, people with fibromyalgia reported pain at temperatures that were not unusual for healthy individuals. Healthy people can tolerate temperatures up to 1-7 degrees Celsius, but those with fibromyalgia cannot. These patients also underwent imaging tests that revealed the abnormalities in the pain pathways of the brain and spinal cord in fibromyalgia patients.
Ask for help if you experience heat or cold intolerance as soon as possible. This will allow a proper diagnosis to be done before beginning treatment.
