Explore the World’s Most Forbidden Places

Mount Weather, Virginia (US)

Mount Weather is an underground facility located deep in the Virginia mountains. It is one of the world’s most advanced disaster response centres. The Cold War-era government complex was built to provide a safe haven to the US government during a national crisis, such as nuclear war or natural disasters.

The facility has state-of the-art technology and its own water and power supply. It can house and sustain for several months a small number of government officials. The facility, despite its importance, is cloaked in secrecy. Little information about its layout or operations are available. The complex is closed to visitors, and high-tech security measures are in place. Armed guards also patrol the perimeter. Mount Weather’s role in protecting US citizens and the government in crisis has fueled many conspiracy theories.
