Chia Seeds: Health Benefits

Boost Bone Health

Chia seeds can boost bone health because they are full of nutrients that improve and preserve the health of the bones. Magnesium, phosphorous and calcium are the main components. Chia seeds are a great alternative to milk for those who cannot or do not drink it. One ounce of seeds contains 18% of your daily calcium requirement, which is more than most dairy products. Chia seeds contain phytic acids, which can affect the body’s absorption of calcium. Some individuals may not absorb the entire amount of calcium that they consume from chia seed. The small amount of phytic acids in a serving chia seed does not tend to completely inhibit calcium absorption. Magnesium, phosphorus and potassium are important electrolytes for maintaining bone health. The muscles that surround the bones are strengthened by protein.
