Hormones
Hormones are another common cause of cellulite. Cellulite is more common in women than men. It can affect them at any age. The problem could be primarily due to the way connective tissues are arranged. Cellulite is a result of hormonal imbalances. Cellulite and estrogen levels are directly linked. Low estrogen decreases blood flow to connective tissue. It also increases permeability, fluid retention, and skin thinness.
Insufficient elastin and collagen fibers are necessary to maintain the skin’s tone. In the perimenopause period, which is just before menopause begins, estrogen levels can fluctuate. They can be either too high or too low. The latter can increase the amount of fat beneath the skin. During menopause estrogen levels decrease and skin becomes more saggy. Women are more likely to notice cellulite in this phase than they were when younger.
