Cellulite: Causes and Risk Factors Guide

Weight Gain Or Loss

Cellulite can be made worse by significant weight loss or gain. Patients who have gained 20-30 pounds in the past few months may notice that their cellulite has become more noticeable. Weight loss can be a good treatment for cellulite, but it doesn’t always work. Rapid weight-loss can cause a patient to lose significant muscle mass, which makes cellulite and fat cells more apparent.

Rapid weight loss can also cause the connective tissue to weaken, and dimpling in the skin may become worse. Doctors recommend that patients maintain healthy weight and lose one to two pounds a week. To achieve their weight goal, patients may need to consult a nutritionist or doctor.
