Sarcoidosis
Sarcoidosis causes inflammation in multiple organs. Most commonly, it affects the lungs and lymph glands. However, it can also affect eyes. Sarcoidosis is characterized by abnormal nodules, called granulomas, that develop in large masses within certain organs. These inflamed tissue can alter the structure and function of organs. The disease can present differently from one patient to another because different organs are affected in different manners. The granulomas may cause abnormal protrusion of the eyes when the eyes are affected. Initial symptoms include fatigue, shortness in breath, and persistent dry cough. Other symptoms can develop as the disease progresses depending on which organs are affected. Additional symptoms may include swelling and pain in the joints, an enlarged and enlarged liver and kidney stones.
