26. Limit email use.
Most jobs require email, but it is best not to read and respond to them as they arrive.
Choose to send an email three times per day: first thing in the morning, before lunch and before you finish your workday. In one study from 2015 , published in Computers and Human Behavior, participants did this. They “experienced significantly less daily stress.”
27. Turn off notifications
Haselberger says that the noises coming from your computer and phone can be a distraction. You can reduce or eliminate notifications, silence your phone or turn on Do Not Disturb. It’s the same for your smartwatch!
Haselberger cites an article from the University of California at Irvine which shows that it takes a person on average 23 minutes before they can regain focus after being distracted. According to this logic, most people spend a third of their workday recovering from distractions.
